The Simple Case for Wal-Mart

Lew’s points today about Wal-Mart are, as usual, right on the money. I used to be one of the anti-Wal-Mart aesthetes, I admit. But a bunch of things finally changed my mind, not the least of which was my inability to side with leftist parasites who hate Wal-Mart because they hate capitalism or because it doesn’t pay high enough wages (or whatever). No one is forced to work at Wal-Mart, and in any case Wal-Mart increases everyone’s real wages by lowering prices on the things people need.

But to the right-wing opponents of Wal-Mart (and please, resist the urge to email me your complaints; I’m swamped with work at the moment), I offer the example of my wife’s family. My wife comes from a family of 13 children. Things would have been pretty darn tough for them without Wal-Mart, which is probably why the average person happily ignores the anti-Wal-Mart propaganda.
