The Rise in Military Spending

Bob Higgs makes an excellent point, one that even Bush critics ignore. It was widely assumed after 9/11 that the USA needed to “rebuild” the Armed Forces. However, as has been made clear in this wrongheaded “war on terror,” many of these things do not lend themselves to military solutions.

Yet, people seem to accept automatically the idea that we need to jack up the military budget. However, think of the billions — no, trillions — of dollars that we are spending on our military ventures, none of which has made us any safer and certainly one can argue that we are less safe in many ways now than we were 9/10.
