The Real Criminals and Mentally Incapacitated

When you register to vote in the state of Florida, you must affirm two things:

I affirm that I am not a convicted felon, or if I am, my right to vote has been restored.

I affirm that I have not been adjudicated mentally incapacitated with respect to voting or, if I have, my right to vote has been restored.

But why is this? The real criminals are the ones we vote to send to Congress. Members of Congress are mentally incapacitated when it comes to the Constitution. Congressmen are the real criminals and mentally incapacitated.

But seriously, why are convicted felons forbidden to vote? If you rob a store and then serve your time what is the logic behind preventing you from voting? I just don’t see it.  But since when does government do anything that is logical? For example: In Florida, bikers must wear helmets but motorcyclists do not.

(For the record, I don’t vote for anyone not named Ron Paul and I don’t think any state should force anyone to wear a helmet. But neither do I think the taxpayers should pay for someone’s injury because they did not wear a helmet.)
