The Professional ‘Pro-Life’ Crowd

Rick “Rantorum’s” attack on Ron Paul, claiming that Paul is no more pro-life than the pro-abortion Harry Reid because the official “right-to-life” groups have a scorecard that gives Dr. Paul 50 percent (also Reid’s score), is more proof of just how even good causes turn into careerist rackets. I doubt there is a candidate out there more pro-life than Ron Paul, but because a political lobbying group has determined that it and only it can declare what is “pro-life” and what is not, anything falling outside a certain legal viewpoint is acceptable.

Note that Rantorum and the “right-to-life” groups see only a top-down central government action as being acceptable. This is pure Progressivism, as Progressivists for more than a century have openly despised our once-decentralized, federal system of government. Of course, they forget that Roe v. Wade also was Progressivist in nature. The decision, contrary to what Rantorum and others claim, did not “legalize abortion.” No, it said that no state could make abortion illegal.

It is important to note that Dr. Paul is the only candidate saying that part of the problem in the whole issue of abortion is that it has been politically nationalized. This point belongs in the discussion, whether or not Rantorum and his political allies like it.

The nationalization of abortion also has resulted in people being careerist pro-lifers, complete with comfortable salaries and perks. Like others in Washington, they become career lobbyists with all that implies. For them, Roe v. Wade was a godsend; furthermore, as long as they can keep abortion issues as a function solely of federal law, they can continue to live their comfortable lives wrapped around a social cause.
