The Pro-Family Military

The Maine National Guard is sending families life-size cardboard cutouts of loved ones who have been deployed overseas. Sure, Daddy’s not here anymore, but hey, isn’t a giant piece of cardboard the next best thing?

Surely I’m making this up, you say. Unfortunately not — have a look for yourself.

Incidentally, I wonder what all these pro-military conservatives — who rightly point out the effects of welfare on families — think the military does to families. Is it normal for families to move every two years, or have a parent away for indefinite periods — or, heaven forbid, to have a family member actually die administering the empire? How conservative is that?
