As I read Alexander Cockburn’s screed against Billy Graham, I am reminded of the utter levels of hypocrisy on behalf of the left. Not long ago, Cockburn was a worshiper at the Altar of Mao and he comes from a family of Stalinists who had no problem with more than 100 million people being wiped from the earth in the name of establishing communism.

What Graham wrote in 1969 was atrocious — and even he would admit that today. But Alex Cockburn, who has happily and enthusiastically endorsed some of the worst mass murders in history, somehow is supposed to come off as a libertarian.

It is my fervent hope that this era of George W. Bush does not become the point at which libertarians began to join forces with the totalitarian left. I hope that we can stand alone while the Washington Party runs toward making the state even more oppressive. From what I see, the opposite is happening.

Yes, Graham was wrong. But Alex Cockburn has not earned the right to criticize him.
