In that hoary Cold War era of AuH₂O, Ur-neocon James Burnham authored a ponderous Spenglerian tome entitled Suicide of the West, in which he asserted that “liberalism is the ideology of Western suicide.” This former Trotskyist communist, who was Murray Rothbard’s bête noire (and William F. Buckley’s CIA control at National Review magazine), would no doubt be pleased to see yet another confirmation of his dog-eared thesis with Friday’s exchange on HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher program concerning the state-sanctioned assassination of Anwar al-Awlaki. Check out this great article from the Libérale et libertaire blog, “The Penalty of Treason Is Death,” which outs Maher and his bloody guests as the suicide terrorists of the Constitution they are.
