Tom: I am reminded, in this regard, of Milton Friedman’s line about how, in the minds of the statists, ordinary people are incapable of looking after their own interests, but are able to select wise leaders to do this for them.
The power-seekers reject the notion of the “invisible hand” because they want to replace it with the “iron fist,” but only for so long as it is their fist on everyone’s throat! My wife is right: the statists should be constantly referred to as “elitists.”
