Thank goodness for the rescue of the ship captain from the pirates. But rather than let the ship owner pay the ransom of $2 million, a cost of many millions more was imposed on the American taxpayers so that the federal navy could posture as the protector of mankind. Will the killing of the pirates, who so far have not killed anyone, result in the killing of hostages, and thus backfire? We can only hope not, though the feds may feel differently.
