The heroic duo of Alexander Cockburn and Jeffery St. Clair explain the lies behind the Democrats claims that a vote for the multi-billion dollar bill funding the war was a vote for peace. Just like the Medicare Prescription Drug vote showed what Republicans are serious about limited government, the vote on the Iraq funding bill shows what Democrats are serious about opposing war. In both cases, the results both a valuable object lesson about how seriously most politicians take their campaign promises to shrink either the welfare or the warfare state.

The loyal opposition

After seeing John Kerry make some tough statements about Condi Rice’s role in the disaster that is the Bush foreign policy, followed by Kerry’s prediction that Condi would be overwhelmingly confirmed, John Stewart suggests Kerry has stumbled on the Democrats’ new slogan:

A moment of resistance followed by a lifetime of capitulation.
