Lew: McCain said “we will come home with honor,” when speaking of a date for American withdrawal from Iraq. Such militaristic babbling – reminiscent of the feudal sense of “honor” in dueling – is particularly disgusting when applied to a nation that was clearly the unjustified aggressor against another nation that had done America no harm nor threatened to do so. I have heard otherwise intelligent people say “it would be nice if we [America] could get out of Iraq without too much egg on its face.” I could not more vigorously disagree. As the thugs who engineered this criminal atrocity will never be held to account for their wrongs, the very least we could hope for is that the nation that engaged in (and, for most Americans, eagerly supported) such actions should suffer all kinds of “egg on its face” throughout the rest of the world. “Honor,” indeed! Such has always been the mindset of thugs, a group McCain now seeks to lead!
