The Graham Cracker

Ryan:  Sen. Graham regards it as “ridiculous” that “we’re going to use a drone to attack a citizen in a cafe in America.” If it is so ridiculous, why would Obama and Holder not say so? (That would have obviated the purpose of the filibuster, would it not?) Of course, Graham may only be taking literally the hyypothetical place of such an attack (i.e. “a cafe”) and ignoring the broader use of such an attack (e.g., shopping mall parking lot, a home, etc.).  If drones had been available at the time of the attack on the Branch Davidians in Waco, do you think the federal government would have used them (they used many other tools of death such as tanks, helicopters, etc.)?

Don’t be surprised at Graham’s political popularity in South Carolina.  It was during a televised GOP “debate” in that state that Republicans in the audience loudly booed Ron Paul for suggesting that American foreign policy should be grounded in the “Golden Rule.” This mindless reaction led a number of people to note that Ron had a better chance of getting elected president than in getting the GOP nomination.
