The “Fairness” Doctrine

Laurence:   Whenever any of my students resort to the use of the word “fair” to justify their argument, I respond “you can do better than resorting to the four-letter ‘f’ word in this class.” All it takes is one such comment on my part, and they have to begin explaining/analyzing why something is either “fair” or “unfair,” which gets them learning how to think beyond the level of “teenager justice” that is so prevalent today.
