The evil of two lessers

James Glassman points out how Kerry’s statement that the Constitution “affords us certain rights” exposes the statism at the core of Kerry’s world view. After all, if your rights come from government, not your creator, than why can’t the government take those rights away from you for the “common good”?

However, Glassman’s praises Bush’s vision of a federal government that stands “side by side with its citizens to help them realize their dreams.” I think Glassman once claimed to be knowledgeable in, and supportive of, Austrian economics so he should understand that the only way the government can help people realize their dreams is to get out of the way.

Maybe Glassman should read The Detroit News’ eloquent explanation of why supporters of limited government cannot support either Bush or Kerry.
