The Essay Everyone Should Read

With regard to Tom DiLorenzo’s comments about Claremont, nationalism, Lincoln, slavery, and neoconservatism:

I heartily recommend this absolutely brilliant article by Prof. Donald Livingston. Print it out and make time to read it; you will not be disappointed. A professor friend at Notre Dame wrote to tell me, after I’d recommended it to him, that it made his day. Livingston puts the nationalists on the moral defensive for a change.

If that essay leaves you wanting more Livingston, move on to this one, which looks more specifically at the American South and makes a moral case for the Confederacy. (It’s a .pdf file, so you’ll probably want to do a right-click and “Save As.”) After you read these pieces, Claremont-esque defenses of Lincoln and consolidated nationalism will sound dumber and more morally obtuse than ever.
