Cindy Sheenan is so disgusted by the Democrats betrayal of the anti-war forces that helped hand them control of the Congress that she is leaving the Democratic Party and creating an anti-war party. (Hat tip to David Weigal for bringing this to my attention.) The way Democrats are alienating their anti-war base reminds me of the disdain with which Republicans treated “fiscal conservatives” and libertarians. Putting aside the principle, because we are talking about Congress after all, one might have thought the Democrats would have learned from the Republican experience that it is dangerous to treat a large part of your base with such utter contempt.

One under-reported aspect of the story is that the Bush appears to have drooped their opposition to signing a war-funding bill that also includes new funds for domestic programs.
