The CDC, FDA, and WHO Are Protecting Your Children – No, Really!

Okay, not really.

The media is reporting that perhaps pregnant women should get swine flu shots. Forgetting that this is somewhat experimental and that, even at 6% of all swine flu cases, the chance of a pregnant woman dying from this flu is still very slim, this part makes me wonder:

Infants, whose immune systems are weak, should not get a flu shot until they are at least 6 months old.

Pregnant women are told to avoid all sorts of things (including preservatives) and advised to eat healthy, wholesome foods and take vitamins, etc, etc… But then, we’re supposed to just stop considering what we’re putting in our bodies and inject – directly into our blood streams – something that is not recommended for newborns?

One of the things that pregnant women are told to avoid or cut back on is fish that could have high levels of mercury (such as tuna). But, now the FDA is claiming that there’s no need to worry about the effect of mercury dental fillings in children or pregnant women. (I don’t know whether the swine flu vaccine will contain thiomersal.)

I am not hyper-sensitive about my diet and exposure to mercury, etc… But, how can you trust these guys to know what is best for you when their own recommendations are (necessarily) contradictory?
