The American Way…

… of doing evil that good may come.

The American Way

I was listening online to an episode of the old radio show Red Ryder (not my favorite show, and not one I like all that much either) late Saturday. It was a episode from the early 1940s I think, and Red was trying to catch a evil doer who was cheating people out of their property and operating from a strip of land between two two states. “The law” couldn’t go after said bad man because it was unclear exactly which state the land “belonged” to.

Anway, in order to catch the bad guy, Red convinces the good residents of the place to heard their cattle somewhere — to where there is no confusion about the applicability of the law, if I remember right. The prople are suspicious, but he says it’s for everyone’s good that they do what he wants them to do. And one resident, a woman, responds: “Working together for the good of everyone! That’s the American Way!” There was also a line in there somewhere about not being selfish and not thinking about one’s self.

Ahh yes, collectivism. It is truly the American way.
