Thanksgiving thought

This Thanksgiving I caught most of a History Channel special on the entrepreneurs who created the modern “fast food” industry. The special told the tale of entrepreneurs like the McDonald brothers and Ray Kroc, Mr. Bell (who was inspired by the McDonald brothers to start his own hamburger stand until he created a way to deep-fry taco shells), Dave Thomas, and of course, Colonel Sanders who, at an age when most are winding down their careers, created the modern concept of franchising by selling the right to offer his Fried Chicken to restaurants across the country. The story of fast food provides a perfect example of how entrepreneurs can enrich our lives when not hindered by the state.

While some may be thankful for the welfare-warfare state and the politicians and bureaucrats who manage it, I am thankful for the free market, entrepreneurs like Colonel Sanders, and those who defend the free-market from statists of the left and right.
