Thanking the Military but Not for What You Would Expect

From a vet who happens to like my posts on the military:

Before I joined the military, I was a diehard conservative. I believed the US was doing a great thing in the middle east and was proud to be a part of the effort. I could not understand why people did not support the wars and anti-war protests actually angered me. Then came a couple of deployments. My outlook on reality changed drastically. I seen no glory in war, and I lost my trust in the government. I embraced libertarianism and began reading LRC. Your post made more sense about the military than anything I had read. I thank the military for changing my outlook on government, politics, and human nature. I do regret the price the Iraqi and the Afghan people had to pay for me to change.

Whenever I post something like this, I get some warmongers who write me and say that I either made it up or someone who is actually not a vet sent it to me. Both of these things would be a surprise to the vet who sent it to me. Vets like this are the real heroes in my book.

Update: Or I get a reply from “Ol’ Vet” or “Chief” (he never gives his real name) telling me things that I cannot repeat on this blog. Things that would make a sailor blush. I like the subject line on his latest: “Hey Freak”
