‘Supporting the Troops the Libertarian Way’

Writes Ory Jeffries:

“I am a former a Marine, or as I like to put it since my eyes were opened, a former pawn for the empire. I, like some other men who joined the military, did it out of a sense of patriotism. What I now know as nationalism. I figured I owed it to the generations before me who had fought the numerous wars we have fought in. Just to give you an insight into the mindset the Marine Corps puts men into: from the beginning of boot camp it’s all about kill, kill, kill, kill, kill. I joined not wanting to kill anyone, but by the time my unit was ready to go to Afghanistan as part of Obama’s big push, we all wanted to kill the enemy. We even had a pool going for whoever killed someone first by running over them with a tactical vehicle. But as most sane people find out, humans aren’t meant to see and do these things, I am proud to say I never killed one man. I remember after my friend was hit with an ied and roughed up pretty bad, there was a group of people standing a hundred yards away. I was told to kill them if they did anything suspicious. They had a wheelbarrow full of yellow jugs, which is suspicious enough. I put my sights on the men carrying them and got ready to fire. All I could see was the women and children standing not twenty feet from them. I couldn’t do it. I’m glad I didn’t. Alas, my point is that I could have. I could have shot all of them. This is what our government prepares men for. To kill people that our government knows are just farmers, fighting foreign invaders. They try to make the enemy inhuman. Many of us have found out that they are just humans, mostly poor humans, just like most who join the military. I have had a lot of troubles since I’ve got out of the military in coping with my anger at the government and our people for condoning all this killing in the name of freedom, when we are losing our freedoms here. It’s very hard to talk to anyone, and many men who don’t have enough strength are ending their own lives. It’s a shame. I would like to thank you, Mr. Rockwell, for giving me hope in real freedom. I can hardly stand it when someone thanks me for defending their freedom. It disgusts me because I didn’t defend their freedom, and they are usually the ones who want the war but won’t go themselves. You, sir, and your crew of writers, and, of course, the Good Doctor, never say, thank you, troops, for your service. You thank us and respect us and show your true support by saying, “BRING OUR TROOPS HOME.” Wars like these make good men into bad men.”
