Spiritual Judo

There has been a lot on LRC about The Passion and also some on the “pedophile priest” scandals. My wife today insightfully connected the two. When I mentioned to her today that The Passion has returned to #1, she remarked that it seems like spiritual judo to her.

Spiritual judo is a way the Lord works in history sometimes. Joseph probably expressed it best to his brothers who had rather impolitely sold him into slavery many years before, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.” In other words, spiritual judo is the Lord taking human actions intended for evil and using them to accomplish his good purpose.

Heather thought of spiritual judo in reference to the priest scandals now being eclipsed by The Passion. I would add that the negative attacks intended to bury the film became a lot of free publicity which made it a sensation. Imagine how frustrating it must be for the Gramscian cadres who have been trying to undermine Christianity’s role in our society by trying to pin the Holocaust on the Catholic Church and by trumpeting the priest scandals. Along comes The Passion which puts the focus back on Jesus Himself and makes all their attacks seem a minor footnote to the real issue. Glorious!
