Several people have taken a break from what was apparently uncontrollable laughter to send me email notices from two centers of neocon propaganda — the Heritage Foundation and Hillsdale College — announcing upcoming Lincoln lectures. The one at Heritage celebrates Lincoln as a supposed champion of the Constitution, while the Hillsdale lecture seems to celebrate Dishonest Abe as the patron saint of self government.
I’m not making this up just to attack a straw man — honest. Look it up for yourself. So when Southerners announced that they wanted self government instead of continued governance by Washington, D.C., and Lincoln responded by launching a military invasion that killed 350,000 of them, including 50,000 civilians, that was supportive of self government, according to the Straussian Lincoln cultists at Hillsdale.
And Lincoln supported the Constitution by violating Article 3, Section 3 and committing treason by invading sovereign states; illegally suspending Habeas Corpus; imprisoning thousands of political dissenters without due process; shutting down opposition newspapers; illegally starting a war without consent of Congress; confiscating firearms; intimidating federal judges; illegally creating West Virginia; deporting a congressman; rigging elections; etc., etc.
If you attend either of these lectures, close your eyes and imagine that it’s Pinocchio standing up there at the lectern, and you’ll get the idea of the truthfulness of what is being said.
