Smoke-Easys

Writes John Petrie: “Just as speakeasys flourished in the 1920’s during alcohol prohibition, ‘smoke-easys’ are arising in some cities that have banned smoking in ‘public’ (i.e., private) places. Prohibition doesn’t work, never did, and never will. The proprietor of a smoke-easy featured in this article seems particularly wise: ‘It’s my bar, it’s my four walls, cigarettes are legal. Why can’t I allow my customers to smoke?” It’s strange when such a simple and obvious statement ranks as wise in this country.'”
