Self-Indulgent & Selfish?

So radio is upset with the Dixie Chicks….

WKIS FM in Miami reported it pulled “Not Ready to Make Nice” due to listener complaints after only one week.

The program director at KUBL/KKAT in Salt Lake City told Billboard he was angered by its “self-indulgent and selfish lyrics.”

Lew, I’m trying to remember that last time “self-indulgent” and “selfish” was a crime in popular song lyrics? Or why the Chicks are any more selfish and self-indulgent than anyone else?

As an aside, I bought Wide Open Spaces (the first CD with Natalie Maines) at a record store in Saudi Arabia. And it had been censored, too: someone had taken a big black pen to the insert art work to make sure the Chicks were “properly” covered. Small minds everywhere tend to think alike, I guess.

The music was all there, however.
