Saddam and Religion

Saddam Hussein ran a secular dictatorship, and Osama bin Laden called for his overthrow for such offenses as not making women wear special clothes, for employing them at high levels in his government, for tolerating Christianity, and for–I guess worst of all–allowing liquor stores, bars, and nightclubs to operate.

Yet Saddam appears at his trial carrying a Koran and quoting Mohammed. War flack Cliff May says he is just attempting “to appeal to the Arab/Muslim masses.” Maybe so. But he also knows that the one sure outcome of this staged event is his death.
