Ron Paul Spawns Dishwasher Dissent and Ziploc Zeal?

The funniest things often happen when you least expect it. Based on Jeffrey Tucker’s article, “Three More Attacks on Civilization,” I was finally moved to buy some phosphorous, tonight, in order to elude this so-called environmental piffle powder that is currently being sold as dishwashing detergent. As Jeff explains, the government, as with everything else, has taken another totalitarian step towards attacking civilization in the name of some fictitious environmental conviction.

Our conveniences, like clean plates and the machines that make them so, must be sacrificed to the false gods of environmentalism. One of the great innovations in human history must be reverted because governments are enthralled by the witch doctors of Mother Earth. Thus must mankind take yet another step back on the path of social progress. And to heck with your fetish for clean things!

I went to Amazon.com to make my purchase of Savogran Trisodium Phosphate (Jeff’s recommendation) for $3.27 for a 1 lb. box. When I am buying these types of protest goods on Amazon, I am always interested in looking down the Amazon page to where it has that bold heading that reads: ”Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought”, and then it lists the related items bought by the consumers who bought the item you are viewing. All of those items listed were products people tend to buy to circumvent the government’s assorted lifestyle decrees, such as various brands of phosphate, Ziploc bags (see me and Anthony Gregory on anarcho-Ziplocs), pure lye, Huggies disposable diapers, soon-to-be banned incandescent bulbs, a bacon press (!), coconut oil, iodine supplements, a survival firestarter, etc. Except there was this one item in that list that was in contrast to all the others, but only in its material form: Ron Paul’s new book, Liberty Defined: 50 Essential Issues That Affect Our Freedom.

I dissolved into laughter. The Amazon statistics are amazingly accurate here. Certainly, the Ron Paul types are the people who will do anything to sidestep the government’s special interest-driven decrees in the name of defending personal freedom and advances in civilization. So yes, Paulistas do savor clean dishes, clear drains, bacon loaded with saturated fat, beautiful incandescent bulbs, and heroic Ziploc bags. And yes, when we don’t have the time to clean the cloth diapers because everyone in the household is working all day to make the mandatory payments to fund the government, we like to throw them puppies away, dirty and all, and pull out a new diaper.

It is undeniable that Ron Paul inspires people to think about freedom, pursue independence, and reject conventional wisdom in favor of self-rule. That is why the regime is desperate to disparage him and paint us all as aberrant political solitudinarians. So be it.
