Ron Paul Anonymous

In a previous blog of mine, I had occasion to say this: “I’m setting up a new Twelve Step program, modeled after Alcoholics Anonymous. It will be called Ron Paul Anonymous. We will be dedicated to not allowing him to ruin our lives by devoting practically all of our time to reading about him, watching him, donating to his money bombs, working tirelessly on his campaign.”

A reader of this blog, Doug, sent me what could well become The 12 Steps of our new group, Ron Paul Anonymous (at his invitation, I have very slightly edited his suggestions). Here they are:

* Step 1 We admitted we were powerless over our leaders — that our government had become unmanageable
* Step 2 Came to believe that Ron Paul could restore our government to sanity
* Step 3 Made a decision to support Ron Paul’s candidacy with our time, money, and energy
* Step 4 Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of our candidate — and found him to be far superior in every way to every other candidate, as well as the incumbent
* Step 5 Attempted to convince other human beings the wrongheadedness of their support of the welfare/warfare statists
* Step 6 Were entirely ready to remove all these defective politicians from office
* Step 7 Humbly asked God to help us remove them
* Step 8 Made a list of all persons harmed by the state, and became willing to put a stop to the madness, for their sakes
* Step 9 Made amends to such people by electing Ron Paul and any candidate he endorses for any other office
* Step 10 Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong in our efforts to promote the candidacy of Congressman Paul, promptly admitted it
* Step 11 Sought through prayer and meditation to emulate Ron Paul, praying only for knowledge of Austrian Economics and libertarian theory
* Step 12 Having had a political awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry Ron Paul’s message to other citizens, and to practice his principles in all our affairs

We are of course not serious about this proposal. And, we hope and trust that no one in any real twelve step program will take offense at these remarks which are only an expression of our love for this man. Love is part of the Twelve Step programs, and, for many supporters of Ron Paul, it is part of our support for him, as this word “rEVOLution” expresses.
