RIP, Jeff Huber

I came to know Jeff Huber through antiwar.com and I was saddened to find out that he passed away at the young age of 57. He had a deft pen, and he accurately and powerfully understood so many things that I was still just discovering about the way the neocon world works. His bold and perceptive observations of the US foreign and military-industrial policies inspired and educated me — and yet, he reminded me and all of us who have worn the uniform of the great fun, the wonderful stories, and the shared mythology of military service. He utilized all of that, and his great intellect and his unmatched sense of the absurd, in his writings and interviews. His talent and his passion helped us understand the fundamental truth of the modern American empire. He loved his dogs. I had the honor of interviewing him once on the radio show I had some years ago — I remember laughing, and learning, and I remember the dogs barking, and I will miss him greatly.
