Republicans Accept Fascism Even While They Rail Against It

Republican senator Robert “Bob” Bennett of Utah was interviewed by Fox News today about Obama’s new environmental regulations. He had some good things to say about the non-problem of greenhouse gases. But although he says the new regulations are an “incredible reach on the part of the EPA,” he stated about Obama’s plan for more fuel efficient cars by 2016: “I don’t particularly mind the action that they’ve come with respect to these standards because they’ve been worked out over a period of time with the auto manufacturers and they make some sense.” What Bennett minds about the new CAFE standards “is the hype that’s going behind it.” This is the same Republican senator who has been known in the past for opposing CAFE standards. So what do you believe Mr. Bennett? Don’t bother calling his office to ask him. The girl I spoke with at his office today about this had no idea what CAFE standards were.

But forget the CAFE standards, if you want to see what a Republican member of Congress really thinks about liberty and the Constitution, find out what he thinks about the EPA itself. There is only one Republican in Congress I know of that favors abolishing the EPA because it is opposed to liberty and the Constitution and that is Ron Paul.
