Republican Funding of Public Radio and TV

In my state of Florida, I keep hearing the announcers on WMFE during their pledge drive whine about Gov. Rick Scott vetoing funding for public radio and TV stations in Florida. It turns out that the State of Florida has funded public radio and TV stations for the past 38 years.

The Republicans have controlled the Florida House and Senate since 1996. Republican Jeb Bush was the Florida governor for eight years beginning in January of 1999. Why did the Republicans in Florida—you know the ones for fiscal conservatism and against wasteful government spending—fund public radio and TV stations for the eight years under the “conservative” Jeb Bush? And why did the Republican legislature in Florida try to fund these things this year?
