Reporting from the Emerald City

A friend of mine, Michael Cervieri, has a nearly hour-long interview with the Washington Post’s Rajiv Chandrasekaran about reporting from Iraq before and after the Anglo-American invasion and occupation at his website, scribemedia.org.

His description of the origin of Baghdad’s “Green Zone” — that it was Saddam Hussein’s former “Presidential Zone” completely idolated from the country that the Americans quickly took over and strengthened its fortifications — was not something I knew. But that’s what empires do when they conquer.
