Regime Intellectuals

Writes Sarah Thompson:

Sydney Lea, poet laureate of Vt. (and father of one of my high school classmates), wrote this about what his “salaried friends” would probably think of his hunting trip to Kansas: “For these people, bigotry and clannishness are odious — unless you hate the right people and belong to the right group; then they would seem almost honorable.”

A nice description of the academy in general, I’d say.
