re: Egypt’s ‘Rose Revolution’?

Writes Stu Swirsky:

Daniel McAdam’s latest blog at LRC is a useful reminder of why the U.S. really should just stay the heck out of the affairs of other nations. Let’s buy Middle East oil (they’re happy to sell it to us) but stay clear of their politics. If it is in fact true that the U.S. is distancing itself from Mubarak because he’s less than gung-ho about the U.S.’s forever War of Terror and unconditional support for Israel, then there is certainly more to the story then we’re getting on CNN or from the New York Times.

By the way, as a Jew, I wonder if the British mandate leading to the creation of modern Israel and the U.S.’s subsequent unconditional support of Israel aren’t perhaps the worst things that could have happened to the Jewish people since the Holocaust. In Diaspora (especially in the Muslim world and in America), Jews were largely left alone, could rise up the ranks of society, and were admired for their contributions to culture, science, and business. But the modern Israeli State, led by an expansionist right wing government, is making Jews once again the target of hatred around the world.

Just as U.S. intervention in the Middle East foments anti-American sentiment and leads to terrorist attacks against innocent American people, the State of Israel’s right wing policies only fan the flames of hatred toward innocent Jewish people everywhere.
