Would Woody Allen have embraced George W.’s desire to be a dictator?  (George did publicly voice a preference for such power on a few occasions, premised on his being the dictator!)  Or, is Woody just expressing the contradictory and confused reasoning of many “leftists” who opposed the Iraq/Afghan wars when conducted by Bush, but have become quiet — some even supportive — under Obama’s conducting the same atrocities?  Perhaps Woody should trouble himself to read Milton Mayer’s very important book, They Thought They Were Free. Mayer lived in post-World War II Germany for a period of time, getting to know many ordinary German people.  He inquired of them what it had been like living under the Nazi dictatorship.  Their universal answers became the title for his book.
