Re: The War on Lemonade Stands

David:  I’ll bet you that the bureaucrats who are dragging this citrus-stand malefactor from her front-yard will turn out to be defenders of Obama’s programs for economic recovery.  That little Julie’s name will be added to the list of unemployed reminds us of the negative role that government regulation always has on our material well-being.  Perhaps the statist boobs will recommend Julie for a federal stimulus — at least to the extent of $120 — to pay the local bureaucrats for the required license!  Julie — and numerous others — have learned from this experience that the best way to stimulate economic activity is for the state to get out of the way of those — even seven year olds — who seek to prosper in a free market!

I am further troubled by the photograph you included on your blog.  The sign Julie holds indicates she is selling her lemonade for 50 cents a glass.  I fear that the Obama Justice Department — Antitrust Division will take this as evidence of “predatory pricing” practices and take far more vicious criminal action against her.

P.S.  I have been informed by a reader that the site of Julie’s lemonade stand was not her front-yard – as is the case with most such ventures – but a street set aside, on occasion, for local vendors.  The thrust of my criticisms remain.
