Re: The Student Traitor

I find Allen Guelzo‘s comments to be in line with his background, and while he is not on the Eastern University faculty (he teaches at Gettysburg College), nonetheless Guelzo’s Jacobin authoritarianism would be right in line with that place. Furthermore, Guelzo is the author of the truly horrible book, Abraham Lincoln: Redeemer President.

Guelzo and other Lincoln “scholars” recently appeared at a Lincoln symposium at Eastern, which is a hard-left “Christian” college, home to Ronald Sider of Rich Christians in an Age of Hunger fame and Tony Campolo, who was the “spiritual adviser” to Bill Clinton. I find it not at all surprising that Eastern would welcome someone who portrayed the non-believing Abraham Lincoln as a Christ figure.

Eastern students are taught to hate free markets, that American Progressivism is the highest expression of Christian faith, and that Jesus Christ really was a left-wing activist. Think of it as a somewhat religious rendition of Antioch College.
