Karen, as an ex- smoker and recent convert to daily exercise and diet, I agree with you that there is something off putting about those libertarians who think they are somehow advancing the cause by chain smoking and stuffing themselves full of Big Macs. (Not that I don’t enjoy the occasional cigar and a Big Mac now and then).

You are also right to point out that the real heroes are those who defy the medical-pharmaceutical complex by seeking out alternative routes to good health. Many, if not most, major health problems could be avoided, or curred, by a proper diet and/or regular use of dietary supplements. However, the Food and Drug Administration refuses to allow consumers to learn about how they can improve their health without enriching pharmaceutical companies. Fortunately, some in Congress are trying to end the FDA’s grocery store censorship.
