Tom your suspicions were correct, other than your all to brief appearance, there was hardly a critical word uttered about “Father Abraham” on the Lincoln segment of the History Channel’s Presidents special. While they did acknowledge that Lincoln did not start the war to free the slaves, they portrayed him as an abolitionist whose only difference with the South was over the expansion of slavery into the territories and new states. The tariff and Lincoln’s real views on race were never mentioned. The show said Lincoln was transformed by the war into a great moral crusader for freedom and democracy. The last comment was that “everything good about America today is because of Lincoln.”

I can’t wait to see the History Channel’s objective examination of FDR.
