Lew:  Your blog on Northern Colorado secession reminded me of an Eris Society conference in Aspen that I attended a number of years ago. One of the speakers discussed what he thought was a good idea: having the United States reorganized into a number of independent states – about 50, as I recall.  During the questioning period, I stated that he was really onto a great idea (a remark that led my friends to think I had gone over the edge), but that he hadn’t gone far enough. “What about a society of 250 million independent sovereigns?,” I asked.  He regarded my alternative as unthinkable.
