Re: Reuben deviationists

Anthony, I hate sauerkraut but I love corned beef and/or pastrami on rye with russian or thousand island dressing and cole slaw. However, the greatest sandwich in the world is found at Primanti Brothers in Pittsburgh, PA. A Primanti Brothers sandwich is some form of meat (I am partial to the cheesesteak, the hot or sweet sausage, and the salami), cheese, french fries, and cole slaw on white bread. This may be the first restaurant to put fires and cole slaw on the sandwich. This sandwich is best enjoyed with a cold Iron City beer while watching a Steeler game.

Occasionally, you can find a Primanti-type sandwich in other parts of the country, usually in a restaurant or bar that caters to Pittsburgh ex-patriots, and sold as a “Pittsburgh sandwich,” but nothing tops the original.
