Kathryn, this is just another illustration of why the focus on jobs, jobs as the be-all and end-all of economic prosperity is ridiculous. If we abolished the Fed, and standards of living were rising, there would be fewer jobs, in part because so many mothers would choose to stay home with their children and not leave the home for jobs that are, as you note, in effect mandated by the Fed. But since the jealous State hates families, and indeed all private institutions that garner our loyalties, I wonder if the bad guys know exactly what they’re doing.
