William, the problem with Paul Weyrich’s piece was that the problems he cited (the decline of American manufacturing, the failure of Americans to save, the decline of small businesses) are rooted in the federal government’s tax, regulatory, and monetary policies. Also, most of the problems with the multi-nationals are because of their ability to manipulate the regulatory state to their advantage, at the expense of their less politically-connected competitors and consumers.

Therefore, instead of supporting more counter-productive government interference in the economy, Weyrich should support a libertarian economic agenda of low (or no) taxes, no regulation, and an end to the Federal Reserve, fiat currency, and legal tender laws.

It should be noted that, unlike to many other conservatives, Weyrich has refused to tow the line set by the GOP establishment, and he has been heroic in working against the PATRIOT Act, National ID, and other infringements on our liberties.
