Karen: Your blog reminded me of how self-contradictory the established order is in voicing its sense of moral correctness. If “offensive” speech is to be avoided, why does this not extend to LSU students and fans as well? Such non-thinking drivel serves only to keep otherwise intelligent minds in a continuing subservience to state power (i.e., “don’t you dare raise the specter of secession in this best of all possible worlds!”). The misguided reference to slavery reminds me of Ezra Pound’s definition: “a slave is one who waits for someone to come and free him.” Perhaps the Ole’ Miss band can work that phrase into the lyrics!
