Lew, I’m surprised to see Science sort-of attack Obama’s absurd promises. With respect to education, they point out that the US is already #1 by a number of different metrics, so he’s trying to fix a problem that doesn’t exist according to standard bureaucratic measures. And, of course, the idea that a cure for cancer is even on the horizon is not something even the most optimistic oncologists and cancer researchers would claim.
I’m not surprised that Science doesn’t acknowledge that excellent education and medicine can both be competently provided by entrepreneurs without the “help” (burden?) of state funding and mandates.
