Re: Movies

The Constant Gardner, the Lord of War, and the Chronicles of Narnia are all great movies that LRC readers will enjoy. Two other movies out this year that belong on any LRC fan’s “best of” list are Joss Whedon’s Serenity and George Lucas’ Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.

This quote by one of the main characters explaining why people hate and resent Serenity’s true villain, the state, encapsulates the movie’s libertarian flavor:

“People don’t like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don’t run, don’t walk, we’re in their homes and in their heads and we haven’t the right. We’re meddlesome.”

As great as that quote is, my favorite movie line of 2005 year is this jem spoken by Darth Vader before his climatic fight with Obi-Wan Kenobi, even though Lucas clearly plagiarized it from a White House speechwriter:

“I have brought peace, justice, freedom, and security to my new Empire.”
