re: Lincolnian Baloney

So Chris Mathews thinks Dishonest Abe would be proud that an African-American like Commie Obama is running for president. Fat chance.

Here’s what The Great Obfuscator said about the subject in the fourth debate with Stephen Douglas in Charleston, Illinois:

“I have never been in favor of making voters or jurors of Negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people.” (Emphasis added).

In his Ottawa, Illinois debate with Dougla he said of the slaves: “Free them, and make them politically and socially our equal? My own feelings will not admit of this . . . . We cannot, then, make them equals.”

When Dishonest Abe spoke of equality for blacks he did not mean for it to exist here in the U.S. They could be equal, all right, but only in Africa, Haiti, Central America, anywhere but here. He approvingly quoted his hero Henry Clay as saying “there is a moral fitness in the idea of returning to Africa her children” since “they will carry back to their native soil the rich fruits of religion, civilization, law, and liberty.”

The Lincoln cult has a hundred excuses for such statements, none of which makes any sense. My favorite is Gabor
Boritt, writing on the subject in his book, The Lincoln Enigma (pp. 7-16), where he says:

“This is how honest people lie.”

To the Lincoln cult, Dishonest
Abe is even honest when he lies.
