Re: Lawsuit Over Dispersants

The following is part of an email I received from a reader in response to my post yesterday:

BP worked hand in glove with the government throughout all of this. Blaming the EPA for BP (and the Coast Guard) use of corexit is like saying it’s the government’s fault if they told me to rob, rape, or murder someone and I actually did it.

The government tells people to rob, rape, and murder all of the time. Take the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, for example. So, yes (YES!), I do believe that the government should be accountable for the theft, rape, and murder of Iraqis and Afghanis. Moreover, I would like to see the specific people who give these orders held personally liable.

For regular mundanes, all of those involved in planning a murder are tried. Statists must explain why the rules change when there is a government involved.

Is BP liable? Yes, and they’ve been paying up to individuals and will be fined billions of dollars (where will that money go?). But, in a just world, the bureaucrats in the EPA would be held personally responsible for each and every decision they make, too. Oh, wait…who would want to work for the state then?
