Laurence, I could not agree more. One of the benefits of getting television out of our house (we use the VCR and DVD, but no outside signals) is that we no longer HAVE TO BE EXPOSED TO POLITICAL ADS! Whereas many commercial ads can be funny, clever, and even informative, I never have seen standard political ads, especially at the presidential level, that are decent.

Instead, they are full of deceit, stupid sound bytes, and nasty put-downs of opponents. No doubt, the average member of Congress and the New York Times editorial page would object violently if Coke ran an ad claiming that Diet Pepsi was sweetened with bug poison, but these same people have no trouble with the typical lying political advertisement. Yet another example of the rank hypocrisy which those that “govern” us display.
