I met a young law student from Mercer University in Georgia several years ago at an academic conference who told a similar story of shooting an intruder. He told me that he and his fiance were sitting on the couch watching television when a thug kicked in the front door. The extremely quick-thinking law student ran up to the second floor of his townhouse, grabbed his shotgun, ran back down the stairs surprising the criminal, and shot him dead. He told me that the police found several empty beer bottles outside his house, and that the thug’s pocket was full of condoms. The police surmised that the criminal peeked through the window and only saw the woman and not the male law student on the couch.
